Savanah Mayo

Hi there!
So glad that you are here. At the helm of Southern Poppy Floral is Savanah Mayo. Savanah is the quintessential floral enthusiast.
​
​Born and raised in South Texas, Savanah is the oldest daughter of two corporate accountants who owned and operated a small farm in their spare time. On the long summer days when her parents would commute to the city, Savanah would stay at her grandparents where she developed her love of flowers and gardening with her grandma. ​​
​
Savanah began her floral career at the age of 17 working away the summer at her local retail flower shop, Fulshear Floral Design. What she originally believed would be a part-time job before heading off to college to study business, would quickly become what she knew to be her true calling. Ace Berry, the owner, exposed Savanah to the world of floral design and the community of people who love flowers as much as she did.

Savanah graduated from Texas A&M University with a Master's in Finance and a Bachelor's in Accounting. Like many people, she followed the path that was supposed to lead to security—a "traditional career" after college. Post-graduation, Savanah was hired at a Big 4 accounting firm. As she always suspected, while that path offered security, it didn’t bring the fulfillment she was hoping for.

For the past 8 years, even while juggling college and a corporate career, she could never fully step away from the world of flowers. She has gotten to travel the country designing flowers for weddings and events, continuously honing her craft and learning from prominent floral designers. Opening Southern Poppy Floral is the realization of a lifelong passion—a return to the creative purpose that has always been at the heart of her journey. ​​​
